Dewi's Blog :D

Hi guys! My name is Dewi. I am 12 years old and and I am half Indonesian and half Dutch. I go to the United World Collage in Singapore and I am currently in Grade 7. I just transferred to this school and was previously in the Hollandse School Limited in Singapore. Art is one of my favourite subjects at school. I also love to watch movies or YouTube (Best thing EVER!), do fun things with my friend and family, and do water sports like wake boarding.
My favourite kind of art is photography, drawing and designing things. I like to do this because I think that I am pretty good at it.
This is a picture that I took in Padang, Indonesia. I edited this picture and made it look warmer.  I would like some feedback so it would look even better.

Our first unit was me, myself and I. There we learned how to draw our face. I drew this on an iPad  and it is my best nose drawing I have ever made. I would really like some feedback on this so I can improve and make it even better.

  1. This is a really interesting medium of art! You drew the nose really well and I like the shading of it as well as how you gave depth to the nose with the darkness of color. I really like that picture you took, it must have been a difficult shot to get. What program did you use to edit it? One polish to maybe make the nose a bit more realistic is to maybe not have it get so thin at the top, unless that is a choice you purposefully made as an artist. Great artwork!

    1. Hi Elena

Thanks for the nice comments and helpful feedback! I am not that sure what the program is called, sorry. And yes it was actually really hard to capture the picture!

    2. Hi Elena, I am Dewi's art teacher - Mrs Hambleton! The app we used on the iPad is called ASketch and is very easy to use but challenging to add shading on the nose. (https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/asketch/id371723593?mt=8) Do you have an iPad? We also use Adobe Ideas and I shall be adding some of my demos if you are interested in trying it out! Thanks for your interest in the work and for your kind comments to Dewi!

  3. You've done a good job capturing the scene in the photo, I think the editing is superb and really enhances the picture. By warming it up it is becomes very serene, like a photo you would see on gmail setting. Is this a place you know well, or did you take advantage of a photographic opportunity? Perhaps for a different photo, you could angle your photo so you are right in front of a incoming wave and outwards so you are looking at it horizontally down the beach. It might make for a new point of view. Can't wait for more.

    1. Hi Simone,

Thanks for the helpful feedback and the nice comments!
It was my first time there but this wasn't one of my first photo's that I took at that beach.

  4. I love the picture you took on the beach! The way that you captured the sand, the water, and the clouds all together making them look like one! I love the time of day that you took this picture, the perfect sun set!

I don't know why, but when I look at the picture of the beach it seems very pixelated?
Maybe it is because you did not insert the original size of the image?
Maybe you tried to size it up so it could be visible for the viewers?

I would have liked to see MORE of the picture.
Next time you take a picture like this, step back a few steps so we can see MORE of the beautiful landscape!!
What sort of camera did you take this image with?

Overall, your photo was very very well taken and edited!

  5. Hi!

This is a really nice idea of using an iPad to make good art. I think that you drew the nose very good, and the shading of it was well done, and the depth is very realistic. As for the picture, it must have been hard to get that, right at the tide. What did you use to make the art on the iPad? I also wanted to say that you could have made more pictures on this beach, I wanted to see more of the actual beach. Great Work!

  7. Hi Dewi,
I love the picture of the beach that you took, it looks absolutely fantastic. The color of the sky is just so breathtaking I don't know what to say. Your nose is also very good, the light spot is perfect. I was wondering in what way did you edit the photo since it seems so natural! Some things I would advise for your nose is not to put a border all the way around the nose, it makes it seem a little unrealistic, and also you might want to not make the outline too dark, do for the next time, you can make everything a little bit lighter.

  8. Hi Dewi,
I really love the picture of the beach! It looks so good because you've managed to capture the contrast of the sun and the sea. I think that the time of day you took it was also amazing because of the sunlight (nice decision!). I really also loved the nose drawing you did on the iPad! I know how hard it is to make a nose look realistic, especially on an iPad! But, I thought that you have done an amazing job of that! Well done!
