This was a really fun but challenging trip. The weather did not play into our favor as it was the coldest week filled with rain. But due to our team’s teamwork and determination, we made it through. We stood by each other through the thick and thin which strengthened our relationships.
I went a day earlier and stayed the first night with David, Aryaman, and Napat to try to climatize and to try to get over jet lag at my place down in ascot. It was a time to bond before the trip so our relationship was already strengthened before the trip.
We met up with the main group the following day and quickly organized ourselves for departure.
For the first 3 days, we managed to quickly organize our preparations like food and the map. While other groups struggled with conflicting ideas, we manage to negotiate on the best way to deal with situations. We split our labor into 2 parts, food and map to increase our productivity and manage to swiftly finish our preps.
While hiking, we managed to stay positive even when we thought of giving up. We sang songs and cracked a few jokes from time to time to keep a positive mindset in the horrible and rainy days we had. I somehow managed to fall waist deep into a bog but my team manages to swiftly pull me out and carried on going. The conditions were horrible but it didn’t stop us from getting organized and cooking.
I have to say, even though we had the worst possible weather there, we managed to make it an enjoyable trip overall and I would highly recommend it for other NYAA participants in the coming years
